With an aim to deliver food Through drones in India, online ordering Program Zomato on Wednesday announced it has Obtained a Lucknow-based startup TechEagle Innovations that works exclusively on drones, for an undisclosed sum.
TechEagle will help Zomato create a hub-to-hub shipping system powered by hybrid multi-rotor drones, the company said in a statement.
“We are at the first phase of aerial creations and therefore are taking baby steps towards developing a tomorrow wherein users can anticipate a drone to supply the food that they purchased online,” explained Deepinder Goyal, Founder and CEO, Zomato.
“Our first’delivery job’ now is to design multi-rotor drones that may pick up a payload under 5 kg and set up drone delivery circuits for decreasing the last mile shipping leg,” additional Goyal.
Zomato has over 75,000 restaurant spouses offering food delivery services throughout over 100 cities in India.
It acquired Runnr this past year and now has over 1.5 lakh delivery spouses as part of its last mile shipping fleet.
“We’re excited to be part of the group and together build something that will surely play a considerable part in the future of secondary and primary logistics from the food supply chain in India,” added Meena.
The acquisition came after Zomato declared earlier this week that Durga Raghunath, currently Chief Executive Indian Express Digital Media Services, will soon be joining the firm as Senior Vice President-Growth, effective December 21.
