PM Modi to make a Significant Statement for power sector on September 25: Power Minister RK Singh “There will be


A significant statement relating to the power sector on September 25 by the Prime Minister. We’re excited about it. It will be very important for the individuals,” Singh to CNBC-TV18’s Shereen Bhan.

In his first interview since taking charge of the Power Ministry, Singh promised to further open up the sector for private players but separating “content” and “carriage”. He also assured of legislative changes to guarantee power purchase agreements (PPAs) are honored.

Singh also promised legislative changes to ensure power purchasing agreements are honored. “We will guarantee that PPAs are signed and adhered to. We are going to change the legislation to see that those PPAs are enforced,” he said.

Modi will deal with the BJP’s national executive on September 25 in an open session which will be telecast live on Doordarshan. The speech comes at a time when there are worries over economic downturn.

Also, the Prime Minister needed in 2015 said that the government has set a 1,000-day goal to electrify over 18,000 villages that don’t have electricity. A year later in his Independence Day speech, Modi said, “I can say that not even the half of those 1,000 days have passed, we’re far away from the halfway mark, and yet 10,000 villages out of 18,000 have received electricity.”
