LG is set to introduce its G8 ThinQ smartphone in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 after this month, and the current leaks imply that the phone will sport a screen top notch, a double real camera setup, a back fingerprint sensor, and a glossy back panel finish. Now, the company has confirmed the LG G8 ThinQ will package Crystal Sound OLED (CSO) technologies that utilises the cellphone’s OLED display as an audio amplifier.
LG states that CSO repurposes that the OLED display as a diaphragm, vibrating the whole surface to generate audio, eliminating the need to place your ear on a receiver. But during the speakerphone mode, the sound is delivered through the speaker. The CSO had just been applied in LG TVs up to now, but it’s now trickling down into the smartphones as well. The company asserts that CSO takes good advantage of the whole screen, improving clarity and creating voices easier to differentiate and subtle musical notes more noticeable. Furthermore, LG noted the LG G8 ThinQ will be able to produce 2-channel sound using the speaker and the top part of the screen. LG has partnered with Meridien for audio tech on the smartphone.
Ahead of the launch, LG has also verified the G8 ThinQ will encourage DTS:X 3D Surround Sound, Hi-Fi Quad DAC, and Master Quality Authenticated (MQA). It will also pack Boombox Speaker for improved sound experience, such as its predecessor.
Renders of the LG G8 ThinQ have leaked on many occasions, and the phone is largely expected to match with a dual back camera set up, a fingerprint scanner at the rear, glossy back panel finishes in different colors, and wide notch up front.
The specifications include ToF (Time-of-Flight) technology-backed front camera for much more accurate 3D facial recognition and greater thickness estimation for bokeh impacts, a 3,400mAh battery, and a 6.1-inch screen with 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The phone is said to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. The LG G8 ThinQ will supposedly be priced at CAD 1,199.99 (approximately Rs. 64,300) for the 128GB version. As we reported earlier, LG will be unveiling the G8 ThinQ on February 24 in Barcelona on the sidelines of MWC 2019.
