Years Afterwards competing against Snapchat, Instagram is said to be building a dedicated shopping Program that may be Known as IG Shopping. The latest revelation comes under the testing of a shopping feature on Instagram Stories that is aimed to expand shopping around the photo-sharing platform. Shopping is indeed one of the major focus areas for the platform which has more than a billion users worldwide. The strategy to start pleasing businesses as a market was assembled back in 2016, though its final form could emerge via the dedicated program.
Instagram is aiming to allow users browse and purchase products from businesses they follow on its platform right through the dedicated program, reports The Verge, mentioning a couple of individuals knowledgeable about the development. The program is now in its testing phase, though its launch date is yet to be revealed. Being a testing model in the current stage, it might also be canceled before any public statement. It is, nevertheless, considered that Instagram is”well placed to earn a major expansion into e-commerce.”
Businesses are actively advocating Instagram to reach new customers, particularly young Instagram users aka Instagrammers. In accordance with the official figures, more than 25 million businesses happen to be on the platform, and two million of these are even its own advertisers. These figures pushed the group led by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger to start offering an intrinsic shopping feature through Instagram Stories which was launched in June. Brands like Adidas, Aritzia, and Louis Vuitton are one of the key partners for the shopping feature, even though it’s expected to roll out into regular consumers soon.
It is uncertain whether the shopping feature exclusive to Instagram Stories will stay in testing after the arrival of the dedicated program. However, this is not the first time when Instagram is planning to construct a dedicated app based on an existing feature. The organization in December started testing direct messagesthrough a standalone app named Direct. Earlier this season, it also brought IGTV as a video-focused program to undertake YouTube.
